Precolombian Archeology and Prehistoric Museum of Martinique

Mondays : 1pm –  5pm ; Tuesdays and Fridays : 8am – 5pm ; Saturdays : 9am – noon

A historical monument listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings, this beautiful construction dating from the 19th Century is adorned with a wonderfully decorated frontage.

The museum boasts a collection of approximately 2000 pre-Colombian archeological pieces unearthed during excavations in Martinique, as well as collections from Brazil and French Guyana.
Former headquarters of the military commissariat, close to  the Savannah Park (former Place d’Armes), it is a reminder of the military presence in Fort Royal.

Located at 10 Boulevard du Général de Gaulle, one of the main roads of the city centre, the Museum of History and Ethnography welcomes you within an elegant  19th century bourgeoise residence
Inside, a permanent exhibition reconstitutes the creole life of the time.  The temporary exhibits are also worth a visit.
The museum shop proposes a selection of souvenirs : heritage and cultural books, porcelain items, jewellery, ...
